First Ever 5th & 6th Tennis Match Ends in Eagles Victory
Coach Miller
Our OCS Eagles faced off in their first-ever HVAC Jr Tennis match on Tuesday, and flew past the USN Tigers. The Eagles had 10 first-time participants and won each of the 5 matches for points, and 8 of 10 total matches! Congratulations to Lawrence L., Liza F., J.P. B., winning their singles matches, and Perpetua B. & Caroline L., and Roan B. & Dax C. won their doubles matches to lead the way for the Eagles.
For the first time as Overbrook Catholic School, and the first time as a 5th and 6th grade team, OCS Tennis took to the courts to play in a match in the HVAC. The inaugural year of HVAC Jr Tennis has four schools in the league, looking to allow students to learn the game of tennis and experience matches and the full experience of a great sport.
The Eagles had 10 players come out for the first match, ready to face off against University School of Nashville and the 10 Tigers that came to experience the first match of the season. To score the match, each team plays three singles matches and two doubles matches to determine the winner of the meet, all other participants play in exhibition matches to gain great experience and enhance their skills.
It was a great evening, with the weather being perfect and all participants ready to figure out what a real match looked like and learn how to referee and score their own matches. The Eagles' top 7 came out ready to defend home court with Lawrence L., Liza F., and J.P. B. all winning their singles matches by a score of 6 games to 1 or 6-2. The doubles partners of Perpetua B. & Caroline L., and Roan B. & Dax C. took their matches 7 games to 2.
Vita W., Anna A., and Avery T. lead the way in the exhibition matches and did well, winning more than 4 games in each set. Anna A. played two different opponents, and scored them 2-2 and 5-0.
It was a great return for OCS to the Kane Tennis Complex and we look forward to a fun HVAC Jr season in this late fall window. The Eagles return to action next Tuesday, October 29 at 4 pm when they take on the Saints from St. Paul Christian Academy.
