Catholic Preschool

Overbrook Catholic School provides a 3 and 4-year-old preschool program focused on experiential, hands-on learning in an ordered and sensory-rich environment. The 3, 4, or 5-day options all foster independence and practical life skills in individual, one-on-one, and group settings.  

OCS offers two options for preschool and kindergarten students: multi-age Montessori classrooms and single-age traditional classrooms with some Montessori elements. All preschool and kindergarten students are taught social, spiritual, and academic goals, providing diverse learning approaches tailored to each child’s needs.  

Students are placed in each track based on parental preference, teacher recommendations, and availability.

  • Montessori Multi-Age

    • Multi-age classrooms of 3- through 5-year-olds 
    • Children are given presentations using the Montessori materials in the room. They have freedom for self-selected work under the observation and guidance of the teacher. 
    • Community is structured “family-style.” Younger children observe and learn from older peers while older children experience leadership. 
    • One-on-one lessons from the teacher in the Montessori areas of practical life, sensorial, math, language, geography, and culture.  

  • Traditional Single-Age

    • Single-age classrooms of 3-, 4-, or 5-year-olds
    • Children develop age-appropriate skills through whole-group and small-group lessons along with structured, self-selected work and play-based practice.
    • Community is built with age-level peers, growing age-appropriate social skills together through daily peer interactions.
    • Mix of individual and small group instruction led by the teacher where lessons are individualized to meet the level of the child. 
Our preschool students have always been set up for success in kindergarten. In 2025-26 when we add the 5-year-olds to the Montessori classroom, teachers will continue to work together to ensure a smooth transition into first grade. It is a hallmark of OCS that teachers take students beyond national norms, exceeding the learning standards expected of them. 

OCS' preschool program provides enhanced learning opportunities with all the resources of a K–6 school. Preschool students participate in music class with a certified teacher, physical education in the full gymnasium, storytime in the library, and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in our Atrium. Suzuki violin classes are available after school or during lunch from St. Cecilia Academy's Music Conservatory. 
 
Our preschool program offers free before-school care from 7:15 - 7:45 a.m. Additionally, after-school care is available from 2:40 - 6:00 p.m., with drop-in or contract options offered. Preschool and kindergarten students have their own play-based ExtendedCARE with indoor and outdoor play, crafts, and storytime. Camp Overbrook, our summer camp, runs for 7 - 8 weeks each summer for 3-year-olds through rising 1st graders.
